August 29, 2008

Milwaukee, WI - Thursday, thousands of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts from around the world arrived in the city of festivals to celebrate Harley-Davidson’s 105th Anniversary and the 25th Anniversary of Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.). Over five days, Harley-Davidson will treat its family of customers, dealers and employees, as well as local residents, to a variety of top-name live entertainment, special exhibits, street parties and an unforgettable motorcycle parade.

Multiple venues throughout the Milwaukee area will host a series of Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary ticketed events, as well as several free activities designed to excite enthusiasts and local residents alike.

“The Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary is the largest anniversary event we’ve ever staged in Milwaukee,” said Joanne Bischmann, vice president, Licensing and Special Events. “From world-class entertainment to unique displays and events, we think there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

Music Event Of the Year
Milwaukee will not only become the motorcycle capital of the world this weekend, but will make a strong case to become the world’s music capital as well. During the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary events, the Motor Company plans to feature more than 50 different live musical acts, including Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Foo Fighters, Daughtry and Dierks Bentley.

The center of entertainment activity for the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Celebration will take place at Milwaukee’s Henry W. Maier Festival Park (Summerfest Grounds) and Roadhouse at the Lakefront. While both of these venues are ticketed events, the Motor Company is also hosting free events that will feature live entertainment at Main Street at the Lakefront and at the new Harley-Davidson Museum campus, as well as special street parties staged at different locations throughout the city each evening.

The Roadhouse at the Lakefront, located just north of the Milwaukee Art Museum, will feature special performances by the Foo Fighters and Three Days Grace on Friday evening, plus Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on Saturday night. General admission tickets are still available for both performances and can be purchased on site at the ticket booth.

The Summerfest Grounds will feature several stages of live acts on Friday and Saturday, including Daughtry, ZZ Top, The Black Crowes, Dierks Bentley and more. In addition to the top-tier musical entertainment, the Summerfest Grounds will also showcase special Harley-Davidson exhibits, stunt team activities, police motorcycle skills competition, a live auction benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), as well as demonstrations and autographs from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters.

Main Street at the Lakefront, located just north of the Summerfest Grounds will host an array of free activities for Harley enthusiasts and local residents through Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. Among the activities planned are more than 22 Harley-Davidson employee bands, the Miller Roadside Café and historical displays celebrating the Motor Company’s long-time African-American and Hispanic riding heritage. The venue will also feature a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle display, dealer retailing, children's activities, food stands and displays from numerous companies including Ford, Shell, Gillette, Echo Chain Saws, United States Postal Service, Kicker Audio and Wisconsin Products.

In true festival city form, each evening during the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Celebration, streets in different parts of the city will be closed off and come to life with live music. Following is an overview of the different street parties the Motor Company is supporting during the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary:

Wednesday, August 27: Highland Avenue between 35th and 38th Street

Friday, August 29: East. North Avenue between Prospect and Oakland Ave.
Saturday, August 30: Old World Third Street between Juneau and State Street

For those interested in getting behind the handlebars of the newest Harley-Davidson models, the 2009 Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles will be available for demo rides at State Fair Park Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, through Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008.

Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Events
Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.), the worlds largest factory sponsored motorcycle owners group in the world, boasting more than one million members, celebrated their own 25th Anniversary during an event dubbed CLUB H.O.G.® 25 on Miller Park’s exterior grounds on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008.

CLUB H.O.G. 25® was free to all H.O.G. members, and one guest, and featured live music entertainment including Kid Rock and Sugarland, as well as comedians Greg Giraldo, Jim McCue and Lewis Black. The event also showcased a special ride-in show, tattoo contest, stunt riders and drill teams and many other exciting activities.

One Great Cause, One Big Parade
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) “Parade of Heroes” will lead a motorcade of 7,500 motorcycles through the streets of Milwaukee on Saturday, Aug. 30. The parade will feature enthusiasts who have raised a predetermined amount of money for MDA, representatives from Harley-Davidson dealerships, H.O.G.® Chapter Parade of Flags, police motor officers, Harley-Davidson employees and enthusiasts from across the world.

The parade will kick-off at 9 a.m. with public viewing starting at the corner of 35th Street and Wisconsin Avenue, continuing east to Milwaukee Street. From there, the riders will head south to Erie Street before landing at the Summerfest Grounds. Local residents are encouraged to cheer on the riders along the 4.5 mile long parade route.

Throughout the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary activities, the Harley-Davidson family of customers, dealers and employees hopes to raise more than $6 million dollars for MDA. The Motor Company has been a National Sponsor of MDA for 28 years and during that time the Harley-Davidson family has raised more than $65 million to aid research and program services for children and adults with neuromuscular diseases.

Reflecting on 105 Years of History
Due to extraordinary demand, the Harley-Davidson Museum™ will only be open to those that acquired tickets through a previous lottery. However, the grounds of the campus will host a variety of free events, including live entertainment, a tattoo artist, lawn games along the river walk and great food during all four days of the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary celebration.

The personalized Living the Legend rivets will also be on display at the museum grounds. Normal museum hours will resume after the weekend celebration.

Discovering the Art of Design
Harley-Davidson motorcycles are styled with respect for tradition but feature cutting edge technology. The exhibit located at Discovery World will shed light on the inspiration and design process of the Styling department and the Production Development Center community through video and imagery to demonstrate the technological achievements that make these motorcycles look like rolling sculptures and function like world class machines. Open to Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary ticket holders only, the display will be housed on the North Lawn of Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin during all four days of the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary celebration.

Harley-Davidson will offer free tours on August 28 – 30 at local Harley-Davidson Motor Company facilities including: the Juneau Avenue corporate headquarters, the Pilgrim Road and Capitol Drive Powertrain Operations, and the Franklin Distribution Center. Plant tours were also offered at the Buell Motorcycle Company in East Troy, Wis., on Thursday, Aug. 28.
